Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

Making Dental Care More Affordable for Canadians

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a national program introduced to help Canadians without private dental insurance access essential oral health care. If your household income is under $90,000, you may qualify for reduced dental costs under this federal initiative.

At Silver Creek Dentist, we are pleased to participate in the CDCP and provide support to eligible patients—whether you’re already part of our practice or visiting us for the first time.

CDCP Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the CDCP, you must meet the following conditions:

  • No private dental insurance coverage
  • Household adjusted net income below $90,000
  • Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • Filed your income tax return for the previous year

Visit the Health Canada website for full eligibility details and updates.

Who Can Apply Now?

The CDCP is being rolled out in stages. Currently eligible groups include:

  • Seniors aged 65 and over
  • Children under 18
  • Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit (DTC)

All other eligible Canadians will be able to apply beginning in 2025.

For questions or help verifying eligibility, contact the CDCP support line at 1-833-537-4342, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

How to Apply

Eligible individuals can apply directly through the Health Canada website. Once approved, you’ll receive a welcome package from Sun Life, the program administrator. This package will include your coverage start date and your CDCP membership card—usually within three months of approval.

What’s Covered Under the CDCP?

The CDCP is not a fully free service, but it does significantly reduce your out-of-pocket dental expenses based on income:

  • $0 co-payment for household incomes under $70,000
  • 40% co-payment for incomes between $70,000–$79,999
  • 60% co-payment for incomes between $80,000–$89,999

Covered Services Include:

  • Preventive care: cleanings, sealants, fluoride
  • Diagnostics: exams, X-rays
  • Restorative treatments: fillings
  • Endodontics: root canals
  • Prosthodontics: dentures (partial and full)
  • Periodontal care: deep cleanings
  • Oral surgery: extractions

Some procedures may require prior authorization, depending on your dental needs and medical history.

CDCP and Other Government Dental Benefits

If you’re already covered under programs like:

  • Healthy Smiles Ontario
  • Ontario Works (OW)
  • Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

…the CDCP typically serves as your primary coverage, and benefits are coordinated accordingly.
